WALL TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT ADDRESSES INCREASED INCIDENTS OF RESISTING ARREST

Wall Township, NJ – April 2, 2025 – The Wall Township Police Department is issuing a statement regarding a recent increase in incidents involving individuals resisting arrest. The department emphasizes that resisting arrest is not only a criminal offense but also poses significant risks to both the individual involved and the officers attempting to make the arrest.

This past weekend, six individuals resisted arrest. Resisting arrest creates a dangerous and unpredictable situation, stated Chief of Police Sean O’Halloran. Our officers are trained to de-escalate situations and ensure the safety of everyone involved. However, when an individual actively resists, it can lead to the use of necessary force, potentially resulting in injuries for all parties.

Resisting arrest can take many forms, including:

• Physical resistance, such as struggling, fighting, or attempting to flee.

• Verbal resistance, such as threats or refusal to comply with lawful commands.

The Wall Township Police Department reminds the public that:

• Individuals have the right to due process and are entitled to their day in court.

• Resisting arrest will not prevent an arrest from occurring. It will only escalate the situation and increase the potential for injury.

• Cooperation with law enforcement officers ensures a safer outcome for everyone involved.

Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our community, Chief Sean O’Halloran added. We urge all residents to comply with lawful orders from law enforcement officers. We are dedicated to serving the township with professionalism and respect, and we expect the same in return.

The Wall Township Police Department encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact the department at 732-449-4500.
