On Monday, March 13, 2017 Police Officers from the Wall Township Police Department participated in the program titled “Otto the Auto” at the West Belmar School and the Old Mill School. The program was conducted with assistance Frank Neary of the AAA Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education. The “Otto the Auto” program is the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education’s most popular program for early elementary age children.
Otto the Auto is a three foot tall remote controlled talking vehicle that can blink his eyes, turn on his headlights and spin in circles while engaging children in fun and memorable traffic safety activities. Otto teaches children the importance of buckling up, wearing bicycle helmets and looking all ways before crossing the street. Otto’s voice is provided by an out-of-sight operator using a headset which allows them to hear everything around Otto. The success of this program is attributed to the innovative way in which Otto presents safety awareness.
