Wall Township Firearms Application & Registration

Welcome to the Wall Township Police Department Firearms Division information page. All applications for Firearms Identification Cards (FID), Handgun Purchase Permits, and Permits to Carry must be submitted electronically through the New Jersey State Police online portals.

đź“‹ Step-by-Step Application Guide (FARS)

Use these steps to apply for an initial Firearms Identification Card (FID), a Handgun Purchase Permit, a Change of Address/Sex/Name, or a Replacement Card.

Step 1: Gather Your Information

Before starting, ensure your name and address exactly match your current New Jersey Driver’s License. You will also need the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of two reputable references. Warm your references to check their spam/junk folders for the automated NJSP questionnaire email.

Step 2: Submit the Online Application

Visit the New Jersey FARS Online Portal. When prompted, enter Wall Township’s unique ORI Number:
NJ0135200
(Note: If you enter an incorrect ORI number, your application will route to the wrong town, your fees will be lost, and you will have to restart the process.)

Step 3: Complete Fingerprinting (If Required)

  • First-Time Applicants: Upon completing the online application, you will receive a contributor code and link to schedule a fingerprinting appointment via IdentoGO.
  • Previous FID Holders: If you have already been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in NJ, your background check will process automatically utilizing your SBI number.

Step 4: Await Contact and Pay Local Fees

Do not call or come to the police station immediately. Wait for a representative from the Wall Police Firearms Division to contact you. Once notified that your application is ready for final approval, you must bring your local fees to the police department.

  • Eligibility: Applicants who paid the handgun carry permit application fee to Wall Township on or after February 11, 2026, may request a refund of the $150.00 municipal portion.
  • Requirements: To receive the refund, you must submit a valid receipt showing proof of payment to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) along with confirmation that your application was processed through the Wall Township Police Department.
  • Important Note: This refund policy applies only to the municipal portion ($150.00) of the fee. It does not apply to the $50.00 portion remitted to the Superintendent of the State Police or any other external agency fees.

🛑 Strict Non-Refundability Policy (FARS Applications):
Please review your FARS applications (FID cards and handgun purchase permits) thoroughly before submission. Wall Township Police cannot issue refunds, credits, or fee returns for FARS applications under any circumstances, including applications denied during background checks, submitted with an incorrect ORI number, or withdrawn by the applicant.

⚠️ Important Processing Notice: To avoid severe administrative delays, please do not call or visit the police department regarding your application status until a representative from the Firearms Division explicitly contacts you. Applications will not be processed until local payment is received.
