On April 28, 2020 at approximately 10:44 p.m., Patrolman Chris Mason arrested Mark Shatkus, 35 years old, Wall subsequent to an investigation of a subject driving a sport utility vehicle and striking vehicles with projectiles on this date. The first incident occurred on Allaire Road at approximately 5:15 p.m. near the area of the Wall Township Police Department. The victim was traveling east bound when his rear passenger window shattered. The second incident occurred on Belmar Boulevard at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the area of State Highway 35. The victim was stopped at the intersection when her front passenger window shattered. The third incident occurred in a parking lot off Belmar Boulevard and was reported at 7:40 p.m. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied at the time of the incident when the front passenger window shattered. There were no reported injuries as a result these incidents.
It was learned during the investigation that Shatkus used a slingshot to launch steel and glass slingshot ammo at the passenger windows of the vehicles. Shatkus was charged with third degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; third degree Criminal Attempt; third degree Aggravated Assault; forth degree Possession of Prohibited Weapon; forth degree Criminal Mischief; disorderly person Commit Unauthorized Act During Threat of Emergency; petty disorderly persons offense Obstructing Highways and Other Public Passages. After arrest processing, Shatkus was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township. There is no threat to the public as it is believed to be an isolated incident.
