On Monday, April 1, 2019 the Wall Township Police Department attended a round table discussion hosted by New Jersey Deaf News at Ocean County College. The main objective of the round table was to bring law enforcement and those who are hearing impaired together to discuss ways to bridge the communication gap during police encounters such as motor vehicle stops and encounters on the streets or at homes. During the meeting, plans were also discussed to educate law enforcement officers about the deaf community’s culture and their use of American Sign Language (ASL). An introduction was provided in the use of the “Drive Visor Communication Card” and the “Quick Tips Communication Card”.
