Wall Township Police Department and Wall Township Public Schools worked cooperatively this morning to investigate a report of a suspicious person at West Belmar School. A thorough investigation was completed and there is no active threat.
On March 12, 2020 at 0612 hours, members of the Wall Township Police Department responded to the West Belmar Elementary School for a report of a male subject sleeping in the boiler room. The subject, William Ramsey (age 31) of Middleburg, Florida was quickly taken into police custody without incident and prior to students arriving at school. Mr. Ramsey appeared intoxicated however he was cooperative throughout the investigation.
The on-scene investigation revealed that Mr. Ramsey forced entry into the boiler room exterior door, fell asleep and remained in the boiler room until police arrived. No students were present at the time of the incident. The remainder of the school was found to be intact and secure.
Mr. Ramsey was subsequently charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, and Criminal Mischief.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
